ABOUT SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

Spiritual direction, as I understand it, is “help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequence of this relationship” (The Practice of Spiritual Direction, Barry & Connolly, p. 8).

My spiritual direction training occurred at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School, within the Benedictine tradition—the Church’s oldest contemplative community—at Saint Meinrad. There, I deepened my understanding of contemplative practice and received focused formation in the art of discerning spirits. This training equips me to walk alongside others in their journey of listening for God and responding faithfully.

Discernment is the heartbeat of my work. It’s the area I return to most often in my own spiritual reading and reflection, and it's what I listen for most attentively when accompanying directees. I love helping people grow in awareness—awareness of the interior movements of the heart, of God’s activity in daily life, and of the subtle ways the Spirit invites us closer.

I offer in-person spiritual direction in East Central Illinois and meet with people virtually via Zoom, serving directees from anywhere in the world.
